Today is the day the "Western Hotel" in downtown Las Vegas closes down after opening as a bingo parlor back in 1970. The property known for low table limits in its 15,000 square foot casino with wooden floors and inexpensive food deals has been closed by the Tamares Real Estate group; This company also is the owner of the “Las Vegas Club” downtown as well as the newly remodeled “Plaza Hotel” downtown. Hopefully a lot of the 90 employees now unemployed at the “Western” find jobs at their other properties. The “Western Hotel” was too far from Fremont Street to gain much foot traffic in an area that had deteriorated over the years so it’s not a surprise the place closed really and, the low budget hotel rooms attached weren’t a draw for a large number people to stay there. The Tamares Real Estate group haven’t announced plans for this property although I’m sure in the current climate it won’t be reopened or the site built on anytime soon.
