"Orleans" To Strip Shuttle

Parked shuttles still in their old Coast Casinos liveryThe off Strip property the "The Orleans" does run a free shuttle to the strip and back a nice choice if you are visiting that property and want to save on cab fare. The shuttle picks up about every 30 minutes from 9:30am to midnight the shuttle runs to the Strip at the side of "Bills Gambling Hall & Saloon" and to the "Gold Coast" which is another off strip property owned by the Boyd Group before returning to the "The Orleans." The "Gold Coast" is next to the "Rio" and across the street from the "Palms" which also makes the shuttle a good choice if you are visiting these properties. The shuttle bus pickup at the "The Orleans" is out front of the South Entrance doors. In the picture you see a row of parked shuttles which are still in their Coast Casino's livery which is the name of a group of properties such as the "The Orleans" and "Gold Coast" before Boyds took them over.

Recent Shuttle Trip

I take shuttles when i get to Las Vegas quite often as its a cheaper option that using a cab and generally i don't have any issues but this last trip i did. First they have buses that go to different areas of the strip but the driver of a different of a different area of the strip told me to get on then joked with a co worker that it would take me 90 mins before i got to the Orleans as he had over areas of the strip to drop off first. I had already paid and considered taking a taxi but i had already paid for the shuttle. I went to get on with my small bag with a laptop in it but her said all bags must be put in the back which is basically a hole where they stack the bags on top of each other Once i got on i saw other people with bags the same size of mine or bigger which bugged me. The shuttle then sat there for 35 minutes while they waited for the last 2 seats to fill up. After we left i was worried about what shape my laptop would be after everyone else got off so i got off at the Luxor at the first stop. As the driver was unloading the bag for the customer in front of me we throw my bag to the other side up against the side wall of the shuttle. I checked the bag amazingly my laptop was fine and then got a cab from the Luxor to The Orleans.

Scooter Rental's

One way to get around town is to rent a scooter from many of the numerous places around town that rent them. You usually rent them for a twenty four hour period because of there low fuel usage can be economical way to get around although riding a bike may not be for everyone. Traffic on the Strip is heavy as to be expected but off Strip outside of peak times traffic moves freely. There are several scooter rentals places in town i will leave information on Paradise Rental's just because they advertise $30 per day for twenty four hours but there is other places.

Shuttles Services Are A Cheap Option

If you need a cheaper option than either a taxi or limo to your hotel from Mc Carren Airport a shuttle bus is a good one. Some hotels offer free shuttle buses to their properties for hotel guests but most do not so check with your hotel first. Another option is the paid for shuttle buses which you pick up from one side of the baggage claim area. You just tell the shuttle employees in the booth which hotel you are going too and then pay them after which they will direct you to the right bus. The companies generally have shuttles that work the strip and then separate ones that work downtown. Fares differ slightly between companies but run about $5 to the strip per person or about $7 downtown and you can usually save a $1 or so by paying for a return ticket. The shuttle buses stop at whichever the hotels the guests are going too so if the bus is full and you hotel is the last drop off may take a while to get hotel but the buses are air conditioned and if your first visit you do get to look at other properties. The driver does have a tip jar by the door and if you tip its up to you but if he loads heavy or several cases for you it might be nice to do.The shuttle buses are run by several companies including Bell Trans (702) 739-7990, Gray Line Tours (702) 539-5700 or Showtime Tours (702) 895-9976.

Bus From Southern California To Las Vegas

If you don't like to fly or drive yourself to Las Vegas from Southern California there is another way to get there although it does take time; The alternate way is by bus either by Greyhound or Lux Bus America which offers daily service on a air conditioned coach. Lux Bus departs from several locations in Los Angeles, Anaheim or San Diego. The trip from Anaheim for example is $99 return which is much cheaper than a plane ticket but its also a 5 hour bus ride each way. Once in Las Vegas the bus will drop you off at the Flamingo, Harrahs or downtown at the California. If you have a "Boyd's B Connected Slot Card" you can usually get 25 percent off this service. I don't have anything to do with Lux Bus just providing another way to get to Sin City.

Tram Between Mirage And TI

There is a free tram that operates between the Mirage and Treasure Island which provides a nice option to move from one property to the other. The tram is air conditioned and, runs on a single track so the single tram goes back and forth meaning you may have to wait a few minutes before the tram returns. This tram has been there for years and has been closed at certain times as construction has gone on but nice to see it back, check with either hotel for hours.
