The Basics of Poker

poker

Poker is a betting game where players compete against one another to create the best 5-card poker hand. Unlike other card games, poker has a unique betting structure that involves three rounds of drawing and a final round of betting.

First, all players must make a small bet, called an ante. The ante is usually a low amount, like $1 or $5. Then the dealer deals two cards to each player, keeping them hidden from the other players.

Then, the players choose whether or not to bet, fold, or call. When the betting round ends, the player with the lowest hand wins the pot.

If you have a strong starting hand, such as pocket kings or queens, bet aggressively. You want to get the other players to fold. But if you have a weaker pocket hand, bet less.
